I was staying about 45 minutes away but had to try the food when I saw the menu! From the minute I walked in, greeted by very friendly staff (shout-out to Rey who knew what to recommend the minute I mentioned I was from PR!), fun merengue music, and smells of home! Ordered the fried fish with tostones (fried plantains) and they were delicious - and too much for one person but I couldn't resist! The cold malta India on the side was the final touch. If you're thinking about it, try it! You wont regret the mini vacation. :)

You've got to love a restaurant that serves a little bit of everything, and that's what we found at El Boritracho in Citrus Heights. I brought a couple of friends as I knew I'd want to order several dishes. We started with the Botanas plate with shrimp, beef, casava and plantain to taste a little bit of many things. Highly recommend. I will never, ever pass up tostones so we got an order of these as well. SO good. Next we had empanadas and an alcapurria. These weren't on the menu. The empanadas were good but the alcapurria was a little over done. Of course I had to try the mofongo with carne frita. I usually order my mofongo with shrimp (or conch if available) but one of my friends dining with me doesn't eat seafood, so fried beef it was. Very tasty. We also tried the Sopa de Gallino or Chicken Soup. Not sure how I managed to miss the picture of the broth. But the chicken was wonderfully seared and the broth so flavorful. We also tried the pupusas revueltos and they were delicious. I mean, most of the rest was Puerto Rican, but I can never say no to a pupusa. The highlight for me was Medalla on the menu. When my dad worked in PR in the 90s it was his favorite beverage. I rarely see it in the states and I've NEVER seen it in California. That was a nice and tasty surprise. I normally go into San Francisco for mofongo, but it's nice to know there's a good option closer to home.

I sat down and knew this was gonna be good! I have had fried plantains but never food like this! So fresh we got chicken, beef and shrimp! All meat was cooked to perfection! I was doing a little food dance, bf caught me mid dance! Don't skip this place.

It's rare to find Puerto Rican or Honduran restaurants in Sacramento and here you get both! This is a small spot with Puerto Rican and Honduran flags proudly hanging all over the walls. They also have Salvadoran food (and flags). We tried the pupusas and two different mofongo plates. I had the mofongo with shrimp on top and the sauce was delicious! We also had a passion fruit juice, guanábana juice, and Salvadoran horchata. (Yes this type of horchata tastes different than Mexican horchata and I love it. ) The servers were friendly. I would come back again.

NOT a taqueria or typical Mexican menu. Their menu is the Central America staples of: rice, beans, plantains. Just missing the Kalik beer!! Look, I knew this place was going to be good when the gentleman picked up the phone and spoke a different language when calling in my take out order. Had fun music playing in the background. I almost wanted to just dine in! Pupusa revueltas - 10/10!! Their salsa is amazing. It's light and has the slightest mildest spice to it. The coleslaw was also fresh! I am head over heels over these pupusas. After reading the other reviews, I'll definitely come back for more traditional dishes and dine in. Small space with dimmed lights. Plaza parking lot is huge. Location is down the same strip and Temple Garden and next to a hair salon.
